Methodism has made its witness in Brea for over 260 years. One September day in 1746, John Wesley preached outside Mr Probus' house on "the promise which is given to them that believe." (Galatians 3:22).
A Methodist Society was soon formed with class meetings, prayer meetings and preaching services. The original Society certainly came to an end, but the work was continued by the Bible Christians who had a Chapel in the village as early as 1833. It was a small Chapel and the class meetings were held at Newton and elsewhere. At a later date the Society built the present Chapel on the hill.
